Inserting Google Ad Code into Sidebar

Here’s another coding task for you to do once you have your basic blog set up.

We are going to be adding links and advertisement scripts to the sidebar of our work-from-home blog. The first bit of code we will insert is a Google Adsense Referral button for others to join Google from.

To add the Google Adsense Referral button to the sidebar you must first sign into your Google account. A quick way to access this is through the Gooogle Search Page if you already have a Google account. In the top right hand corner you should see a link “My Account”

  1. Under “[yourname]’s Google Account’ click on Adsense link under “Try Something New” heading and log in on the opening page.
  2. Under “Adsense Setup” tab, click on “Referrals” link
  3. Select “image ads” option in “Show Referral with” text box
  4. Click on “view products” link beside “Google Products
  5. Click on “Google Adsense” link on opening page
  6. Select the ad button you want to show
  7. You can create a “channel” or tracking ID for this ad (say niche keyword or name of site where you want to dispaly it) in “Advanced options“. This is optional but recommended
  8. Click on “Save and get code” button
  9. Highlight and copy all the code and paste into Sidebar

To Paste the code into Sidebar:

  1. In Wordprpess Dashboard go to “presentation” tab
  2. Click on “Theme Editor” sub-tab
  3. Click on “Sidebar” link in list to the right
  4. Scroll down to and place your cursor where you want to insert the code
  5. Use paste command (cntrl+v or right-click>paste)
  6. Click on “update file” button then check the results by going to your blog

Below is a screen shot of my sidebar code showing where I placed my ad as a guide for you. This is a good place to put it because as your blog grows so will your sidebar and your Google Ad may disappear down the page if you place it at the bottom

You will notice that I also added some extra formatting code tags to the Google code:
To enter the code…
CENTERING: < center > before and < /center > afterwards
PARAGRAPH: < p > before and < /p > afterwards
LINE BREAK: < br > afterwards
In the live situation there is no spaces between the character as written here to ensure they are visible as text.

Adding these codes make it “look” nice in your sidebar.
You can add these formatting tags to any codes you enter

You add all other elements in a similar manner. Next I will add my Bidvertiser RSS Button to the top of my Blog

16 Jan UPDATE:

Google is no longer providing Adsense Referrals so you will need to change your Ad to something else. I suggest you use the Firefox with Google Toolbar referral as these are two very important tools for the program and many new-to-affiliate-marketing members may still be using Internet Explorer or some other none tabbed browser
